JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Drivers in the Murray Hill and Riverside neighborhoods can expect to see a new feature on their roadways that the Florida Department of Transportation said was done in an effort to “alleviate congestion and improve safety.”
On Friday, a new roundabout at Post Street and Old Roosevelt Boulevard will be open to the public. FDOT said the project was completed months ahead of schedule.
Additionally, the agency said the roundabout is expected to reduce rail incidents by nearly 80% in conjunction with other safety enhancements like new pedestrian rail gate skirts, camera detection with audible sound devices, updated signage, upgrades to lighting, and the removal of all traffic signals to create a “free-flow intersection.”
The implementation of the roundabout is a part of a larger project by the FDOT between Post Street from Cassat Avenue to Old Roosevelt Boulevard.
The $6.5 million project, which was awarded to Watson Civil Construction, was expected to be completed in summer 2026.
