Is this Florida fall faking us out?

  • October 17, 2025

SARASOTA, Fla. (WWSB) – Florida loves to flirt with fall but never fully commit. Sure, the mornings feel a little crisper, the skies are postcard blue, and your AC gets a rare midday break. But don’t let this breezy, low-humidity stretch fool you, this isn’t real fall. It’s a sneak preview, and the humidity already has its return ticket booked for the weekend.

The calm before the shift

High pressure anchored over the Southeast continues to deliver picture-perfect days: bright sun, low humidity, and mild mornings. That’s Florida’s “baby fall”, exactly what makes this week feel a little magical.

Weak front slides through Sunday

A weak front will drift across the region late Sunday into Monday. It won’t usher in fall cold, but it might trigger a few isolated showers, especially inland.

Humidity makes a comeback

While the weak front won’t bring a true cool down, it will open the door for higher humidity. Dew points will climb back into the upper 60s and low 70s through much of next week, which means those crisp mornings will fade into warmer, stickier air. It’s classic Florida fall, it teases you with comfort, then flips right back to steamy.

Boating & marine outlook

Winds will be breezy overnight and calmer by day. Expect northeast to east winds of 10–15 knots, with higher gusts at night that may make waters a bit choppy. Boaters should be cautious especially late week. Seas offshore will be rougher than nearshore.

Skywatch tonight

The Moon and Jupiter return as your evening spotlight duo, shining in the eastern sky after sunset. Skies are mostly clear, so if you’re up late, you might catch a few Orionid meteors streaking across the heavens. The meteor shower is ramping up, not peak yet, but it’s putting on a show.

Tropics update & Disturbance 1

A tropical wave, Disturbance 1, is being monitored over the central Atlantic with a low 20% chance of development over 7 days. Slow, limited development is possible as it drifts westward, but current forecasts wouldn’t have that happened until late next week. Long range models show it’s not expected to impact Florida, but that could change. Stay tuned.
