TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – One Tallahassee church is rallying the community to support families in Jamaica who are still struggling after Hurricane Melissa.
On Sunday, Bethel Missionary Baptist Church, under the leadership of Reverend Dr. R.B. Holmes, Jr., hosted “Jamaica Support Sunday.”
The church is collecting relief supplies for families and communities in Jamaica facing challenges in the aftermath of Hurricane Melissa.
The donation list includes essential household and emergency items like food, water, clothing, toiletries, cleaning supplies, blankets, first aid kits and children’s toys.
Holmes said many of his members are from Jamaica, making this relief effort even more personal.
“It’s so important for the faith-based community to always be sensitive to those who are suffering. It’s our spiritual responsibility to stand with our brothers and sisters who lost their homes, their farms, and their livelihoods,” Holmes said.
Holmes said they are also partnering with New Hope International in Tallahassee to collect supplies.
Those who want to donate can drop off essential items throughout December at 224 Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. or call Bethel MBC to coordinate a donation.
