Santorini has arrived in St. Pete. Mythos Greek Bistro officially opened this week at 2501 Central Avenue, bringing modern Greek cuisine and Mediterranean island vibes to its indoor and outdoor space.
The building was most recently home to Salty Nun, which closed earlier this year. Renovations by Mythos include an updated outdoor bar, a revamped interior, and bright blues and whites throughout, the traditional Greek colors. Even the outdoor pergolas are lined with hand-painted Greek art.
Mythos Greek Bistro will be taking over the former Salty Nun space
Mythos is more than might be expected, especially given the casual style of the last few concepts in the location. While it does have relaxed vibes, the kitchen at Mythos is delivering higher-end experiences, including seafood, steaks, Greek favorites, and even the occasional dish lit aflame at the table.
The lengthy menu offers a wide variety of options. There is an array of spreads, Greek street food, and small plates such as stuffed grape leaves, spanakopita bites, keftedes, Aegean octopus, and mussels. Specialties include kebab platters, branzino, lamb chops, Scottish salmon, and a variety of steak, seafood, and pasta dishes.
The head chef at Mythos is a native of Greece who has spent more than 20 years in Miami preparing Greek staples and modern twists on classic dishes. Service begins at 4 p.m. daily.
Mythos also features a full cocktail bar with a mix of American standards and Greek essentials. They plan regular live performances on weekends, including Greek music and artists, as well as DJs. They also plan for hookah and will be open late for drinks.
The concept comes from the duo of Daniel Morina and Konstantinos Chillias. Tampa locals may know Chillias, who has run Ybor City favorite La Creperia Cafe for years.
Mythos Greek Bistro joins what has quickly become a blossoming Mediterranean scene in the neighborhood. Baba On Central has long been a staple, and the debut of Barbouni two years ago has been a massive hit. Just a few weeks ago, Ruya debuted on 1st Ave South, bringing a Mediterranean-style coffee shop and wine lounge to the area.
With its island party vibes and modern Greek food and drink, Mythos is set to become another star in the popular nightlife district. Follow them on Instagram to see the latest.
