A new roundabout opens Friday, Oct. 17, at Post Street and Old Roosevelt Boulevard that the Florida Department of Transportation says is designed to alleviate congestion and improve safety for commuters in the Murray Hill and Riverside neighborhoods of Jacksonville.
It is expected to reduce rail incidents by at least 78% with the addition of several safety enhancements, according to the department. Intersection improvements include new pedestrian rail gate skirts, camera detection with audible sound devices, updated signage, lighting upgrades and removal of all traffic signals, creating a free-flow intersection with higher visibility.
The overall $6.5 million rail safety and resurfacing project began on Post Street from Cassat Avenue to Old Roosevelt in mid-2025 and is expected to complete it by mid-2026. Watson Civil Construction is the contractor.
Jacksonville has a new roundabout at Post Street and Old Roosevelt Boulevard.
The Florida Department of Transportation provides the following guide on how to drive in a roundabout:
Reduce your speed to 10-15 mph as you approach the roundabout; be aware of bicyclists and pedestrians; look left for oncoming traffic (traffic moves counter-clockwise); yield to vehicles already in the roundabout, wait for a gap and enter; do not stop in the roundabout; do not pass other vehicles; use turn signal to exit the roundabout to the right; yield to pedestrians crossing the exit lane; allow emergency vehicles to pass.
