TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – A Nims Middle School student was arrested Monday after bringing a “makeshift knife” to campus, according to a Leon County Sheriff’s Office press release.
A school resource deputy found the knife “constructed from a piece of saw blade with a wrapped handle,” in the 7th-grader’s backpack, per LCSO.
The 13-year-old was charged with possession of a dangerous weapon on school property and was taken to the Juvenile Assessment Center, according to law enforcement.

Monday’s arrest comes about two weeks after another 13-year-old Nims Middle School student was taken into custody after a deputy found an 8-inch steak knife in their backpack.
Two other middle schoolers have been arrested recently for bringing weapons to campus.
A 12-year-old Griffin Middle School student was taken into custody for bringing a BB gun onto the school’s campus at the beginning of November, and another 12-year-old Griffin student was arrested nearly three weeks ago for bringing a metal airsoft pistol to campus, per LCSO.
LCSO encouraged parents and guardians to speak with their kids about the “serious consequences of bringing weapons to school and the importance of maintaining a safe and secure learning environment.”
