A Lee County woman was arrested after Cape Coral police said she was driving recklessly through traffic with multiple children not properly restrained in the vehicle.On Sunday morning, the Cape Coral Police Department received reports of a driver nearly causing multiple crashes, cutting between vehicles and making obscene gestures toward other drivers along Del Prado Boulevard North and Hancock Bridge Parkway.A CCPD officer then said they saw a black Kia traveling at a high rate of speed northbound on Del Prado Boulevard N near NE Pine Island Road.According to CCPD, the driver, later identified as Jo’Kenya Harris, 32, made a right turn from a straight lane and nearly struck a vehicle that was stopped in the designated turn lane.Police said Harris then continued speeding and swerving through traffic along eastbound NE Pine Island Road.She also passed several vehicles and drove up and over a curb at the intersection of NE Pine Island Road and Pondella Road, according to the CCPD news release.An officer tried to catch up to the black Kia to conduct a traffic stop. CCPD said the officer’s speed exceeded 60 mph in a posted 45 mph zone. The officer said they saw the vehicle continue to switch lanes aggressively and strike another curb before turning west onto Pine Lake Drive, before stopping at the intersection with Brynmar Drive. According to CCPD, during the traffic stop, Harris said she had been driving like that to catch up to a man in a burgundy car, who she claimed threw an object at her vehicle.CCPD said that at no time did the officer see a vehicle or an individual who matched Harris’ description.The passengers inside the vehicle included Harris’ husband and four children. According to police, two of the children were not properly restrained in seatbelts or in an approved child safety seat.Harris was arrested and taken to the Lee County Jail on one count of reckless driving.
