Florida’s capital is about to get a massive Texas-sized surprise as a giant, famous beaver is heading straight for Tallahassee. Hundreds of jobs are coming, and local leaders say it could change the way you drive through I-10 forever.

The legendary roadside sensation, Buc-ee’s, already has stops in St. Augustine, Daytona Beach, Ocala and Fort Pierce, and now it’s making its way to Florida’s capital. Known for bright yellow-and-black signs, the iconic smiling beaver, Beaver Nuggets and massive fuel pumps, each location is a destination for road-trip snacks, souvenirs and Texas-style over-the-top flair.

The update came from Rick Minor, Leon County Commissioner for District 3, who confirmed on Facebook that the project is moving forward without major issues. “I’m excited about the new jobs and economic activity this Buc-ee’s location will bring…,” the commissioner wrote.

“Parcel acquisition is nearly complete, and the anticipated date for the groundbreaking is Q1 2026,” Minor added. “Next step?  Buc-ee’s will submit detailed development plans for review. At that point, the County will schedule public hearings, giving the public an opportunity to provide input.”

The Tallahassee store is expected to span 75,000 square feet with nearly 120 gas pumps, and is projected to create roughly 200 jobs, from retail and fuel attendants to management positions, according to the Tallahassee Democrat.

While Gov. Ron DeSantis highlighted the company’s expansion during a summer briefing about highway projects, he specifically touted the Tallahassee location, saying it will “revolutionize driving on I-10.” Minor’s update confirms the latest details, signaling that Florida’s capital is about to get a major economic boost.

Buc-ee’s has been on a rapid expansion spree, opening new stops recently in Mississippi, Arkansas, Kansas, Tennessee and Arizona. For Texas fans and Florida drivers alike, the new Tallahassee location promises a mega travel center experience, combining convenience and jobs.

With construction set to begin next year, local officials say this isn’t just a travel stop, it’s a massive jobs and economic win for Tallahassee, bringing a little Texas flair straight to Florida’s highways.
