1. CAIR says it will sue after DeSantis declares it ‘foreign terrorist organization’
CAIR, which stands for the Council on American-Islamic Relations, responded Tuesday after Gov. Ron DeSantis claimed the organization has connections to terrorist groups like Hamas.

2. Dominican court orders new trial for Wander Franco in sexual abuse case
An appeals court in the Dominican Republic today ordered a new trial for Tampa Bay Rays shortstop Wander Franco, who was convicted earlier this year of sexually abusing a minor and had received a two-year suspended sentence.

3. Voters head to polls Tuesday in State Senate District 11 Special Election
Republican Ralph Massullo Jr. is running against Democrat Ash Marwah for the seat, which became vacant when Gov. Ron DeSantis appointed Blaise Ingoglia to replace Jimmy Patronis as the state’s Chief Financial Officer. Patronis vacated that office after his election to Congress.

4. Final parent input meeting set for Tuesday as Pinellas County school closures loom
The fifth and final “Planning for Progress” meeting put on by the district will be held at Lakewood High School from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m.

5. SpaceX successfully launches U.S. security satellite into orbit
SpaceX successfully launched the NROL-77 mission from the Cape Canaveral Space Force Station’s Space Launch Complex 40 today. Rocket lovers may have heard a sonic boom, which was expected during SpaceX’s launch of a U.S. national security satellite.

6. Tampa teacher shares love for reading with students
Melissa Merchant believes it is important for her students to love reading, and said she’s worked hard to create a classroom that helps foster that.

BOLTS AT CANADIENS | The Tampa Bay Lightning, who won their last eight games of November but have lost all four of their games so far in December, are at the Montreal Candiens tonight. With the skid, the Bolts have fallen into second place in the Atlantic Division, behind the Detroit Red Wings. The puck drops tonight at 7 p.m.
TAMPA ROAD CLOSURE | Beginning at 5:30pm today, the intersection of South MacDill Avenue and West Azeele Street will be closed while the Tampa Water Department conducts maintenance on the water distribution system. Barricades and signs will be located in the area to assist with traffic flow. All lanes will reopen to traffic daily between 12am and 5:30pm, during the course of this work. he completion of the work with a return to normal traffic patterns is expected by Saturday, Dec. 13 at 12 a.m. The Tampa Water Department may need to return at a later date to complete additional work. 
CITIZENSHIP CLASSES | The Safety Harbor Public Library offers free resources for English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL), including U.S. Citizenship Preparation and Conversation Clubs to help community members enhance their language skills, integrate into the community, and prepare for the naturalization process. Those interested can visit the library at 101 2nd St. N. from 10 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. on Dec. 10.
TGH COLLECTS TOYS | The Tampa General Hospital Foundation will run the annual Operation Santa Toy Drive Collection, with donations benefitting Muma Children’s Hospital at Tampa General Hospital. Unwrapped toy donations will be accepted 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Dec. 10. New books, educational and developmental toys, pajamas, Legos, games, puzzles, coloring or activity books and spa kits for kids will be accepted. Donations can be dropped off at the East Pavilion Valet Circle near the Cancer Institute, at 1 Tampa General Circle.

Residents who have been hoping for a grocery store in south St. Pete will have to wait a bit longer.

The development group chosen last year to remake Tangerine Plaza plans to ask city council Thursday for a one-year extension and over $22 million in city and county funds to get the project off the ground.
