João Vitor Menin: Brings the Brazilian digital banking leader Inter to Miami

João Vitor Menin is the Global CEO of Inter&Co, a Miami-based digital banking and financial technology company that has rapidly expanded across the Americas.

Born in Brazil, Mr. Menin began his professional journey in civil engineering. While completing an internship at one of Brazil’s largest homebuilders, MRV, he discovered a passion for financial markets and in 2004 joined Inter, a small regional credit institution at the time. Over the next two decades, he steadily advanced through the company, gaining experience in credit underwriting, investments, Treasury, product development, and executive leadership, before being appointed CEO in 2015.

Under Mr. Menin’s leadership, Inter evolved from a regional lender into Brazil’s largest digital bank, pioneering the nation’s first 100% digital checking account. The move launched a new era of retail banking, combining simplicity, transparency and technology.

The bank’s growth has been remarkable yet sustainable, expanding to more than 41 million clients, $20 billion in assets, and $2 billion in equity. Beyond traditional banking, Inter has become a “super app,” integrating commerce, investments, insurance, social media and loyalty programs into a single platform, giving customers a seamless financial and digital experience.

Inter’s international expansion has brought the company to Miami, where it established its U.S. headquarters on Brickell Key in 2023 and Mr. Menin permanently relocated.

The city was a natural choice, he says, given its role as a gateway to Latin America, a concentration of Brazilian clients seeking U.S. banking services and a thriving technology ecosystem.

Inter has quickly embedded itself in the local community, partnering with projects such as the Underline and Brightline and securing naming rights to Inter&Co Stadium in Orlando, while planning a permanent Miami office tower and the addition of 250 employees over the next several years.

A publicly traded company listed on NASDAQ, Inter&Co continues to build on its Brazilian success, replicating its digital banking and super app model for U.S. customers.

In just a few years, the company has added a broad suite of offerings, from global accounts and credit cards to investments and commerce, with plans to roll out insurance in the near future. Its stock rose nearly 50% in 2024 alone, reflecting investor confidence in Inter’s strategy and growth trajectory.

Looking ahead, Mr. Menin envisions continued expansion across Latin America and Central America, with Miami serving as a strategic hub for global operations. He emphasizes innovation and technology as the company’s foundation, driving new products and services that anticipate customer needs.

For Mr. Menin, Inter is more than a bank; it is a platform for transforming financial access and shaping the future of digital banking on a global scale.
Mr. Menin spoke with Miami Today reporter Genevieve Bowen.
