Oregon State football is targeting a new defensive coordinator under JaMarcus Shephard.

Former Miami defensive coordinator Lance Guidry is the Beavers’ target for their DC job, according to a source with knowledge of the forthcoming hire. Matt Zenitz of CBS Sports first reported the news.

Guidry, 54, spent two seasons at Miami before his firing at the end of the 2024 season. He was a defensive analyst for LSU during the 2025 season.

Prior to his time in Coral Gables, Guidry crossed over with Shephard when they both coached at Western Kentucky in 2011 and 2012. At the time, Shephard was a defensive analyst, and Guidry the defensive coordinator for the Hilltoppers. Guidry also served as interim head coach during the 2012 season.

Guidry was the head coach at McNeese State from 2016-18 before bouncing around and ending up on Cristobal’s staff at Miami in 2023. The Hurricanes’ poor defensive performance down the stretch of the 2024 season led to his firing, according to reports.

OSU is expected to hire a co-defensive coordinator among its position coaches to work alongside Guidry, per sources. That name is likely to emerge in the coming days.

So far, Shephard’s expected staff is comprised of Eron Hodges in a football general manager-type role, Mitch Dahlen as offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach, Torrey Gill as wide receivers coach, Inoke Breckterfield as defensive line coach, and Guidry as defensive coordinator.
