PINELLAS PARK — A Seminole woman was arrested Dec. 3 on an attempted murder charge after police said she used a power cord from her ankle monitor to strangle a nurse at a Pinellas Park psychiatric facility.

Pinellas Park police said Karen Dedert, 58, attacked a registered nurse at Windmoor Healthcare, 11300 U.S. 19 N., by wrapping the cord around the nurse’s neck and tightening it.

Police said they were called to the facility after reports of an assault. The nurse sustained injuries consistent with strangulation but is expected to recover, according to police.

Dedert was a patient at the facility at the time of the attack, police said.

According to police, Dedert was already out on bond for a separate attempted murder charge filed by the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office on Nov. 4.

She was arrested and taken to the Pinellas County Jail, where she faces an additional attempted murder charge.
