Largo sets Touch-A-Truck, Explorer Fest

The city of Largo’s annual Touch-A-Truck event and STEM Explorer Fest will offer exciting vehicles, hands-on science, and family-friendly fun on Saturday, Jan. 17, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Largo Central Park.

Guests can climb, explore, and get an up-close look at public safety vehicles, utility trucks, construction equipment, boats, and more. Community helpers will be on site to share what these vehicles do and how they serve the community.

A sensory-friendly period will take place from 10 a.m. to noon with softer music and no horns or noisemakers. Regular activities, including horn honking, will resume at noon.

In partnership with Pinellas County Schools, the STEM Explorer Fest will offer interactive science stations designed to spark curiosity and inspire young learners. Organizations interested in setting up a STEM booth may complete the STEM Explorer Fest Application.

Food and beverage vendors will be available on site and rides on the Largo Central Railroad will be free.

Commission celebrates Citizens’ Academy grads

LARGO — City commissioners celebrated the graduation of the 2025 Citizens’ Academy class during its Dec. 2 meeting, recognizing the dedication of community members who completed this year’s interactive civic engagement program.

The Class of 2025 began its journey on Sept. 15. This year marks the 23rd graduating class of Largo’s Citizens’ Academy, which gives community members a behind-the-scenes look at city operations and presentations from key service areas, including Environmental Services, Public Works, Police, Fire Rescue, the Largo Public Library, Engineering Services, Community Development, and more.

The final session on Nov. 17 focused on how the city receives funding and prioritizes budget investments. Throughout the Academy, participants engaged directly with city staff, asked questions, and gained a deeper understanding of how their city government operates. A highlight video was shared during the Commission meeting before City Clerk Diane Bruner presented graduates with their certificates.

Applications for next year’s Citizens’ Academy are accepted year-round at Largo.com/Volunteer.
