Cape Coral plans to finish building the outer shell of a bistro and concessions facility in Jaycee Park after a $1.4 million agreement with the concessionaire collapsed in March.

Completing the concessions shell will keep plans to reopen the park this spring on track, officials said. City Council on Dec. 10 voted unanimously to complete the shell, which primarily includes adding a roof to the partially built structure, at a cost of about $648,000.

City staff plans to reopen a request for proposals to find another concessionaire that will provide a capital contribution and finish the interior of the bistro, potentially allowing the city to recover the cost of completing the shell.

City Manager Michael Ilczyszyn told councilors that some restaurateurs have unofficially expressed interest in the project but declined to name them at this time.Â
