PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. (CBS12) — What was meant to be a high-octane e-bike takeover turned into a full-stop police crackdown in Port St. Lucie this weekend.

The Port St. Lucie Police Department (PSLPD) said its officers were alerted to social media posts promoting a large-scale gathering near SW Village Parkway and SW Crosstown Parkway. The group, which grew to nearly 50 participants, included both juveniles and adults — some traveling from as far as Palm Beach and Tampa.

Police said its officers intercepted the group as they began arriving at the meetup location. The crackdown resulted in:

6 criminal traffic citations for operating unregistered motor vehicles15 citations for various traffic violations3 arrests on charges including fleeing and eluding, driving without a license, and operating unregistered vehicles8 e-dirt bikes seized and towed

PSLPD said multiple participants were turned away and warned upon arrival, many hauling e-dirt bikes on trailers.

“Our message is clear,” PSLPD stated. “Lawless street takeovers will not be tolerated in Port St. Lucie.”
