PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. (CBS12) — From those with a need for speed and out-of-county sex offenders, the Port St. Lucie Department (PSLPD) had its hands full with a busy weekend.
Over the course of the first weekend in September, PSLPD said it arrested six men and one woman who were found to be speeding while driving under the influence.
Drove 50 mph over the speed limit, refused to comply with officers’ demands
The first arrest announced was Tarik Zein, who was allegedly traveling more than 50 mph over the speed limit on SW Airoso Boulevard. When confronted by law enforcement, he became confrontational and failed to obey officers’ demands.
PSLPD says he also refused to acknowledge the DUI investigation officers were trying to conduct.

Zein was booked on counts of the new super speeder statute, DUI refusal, resisting without violence and he was issued multiple citations. Officers say he is also without a vehicle after it was towed.
Miami native, alleged sex offender behind bars
A Miami native can also call a Port St. Lucie jail cell his new home. Officers say Cedrick Powell was traveling through Port St. Lucie when he was stopped on Crosstown Parkway for a traffic infraction.
PSLPD states that Powell failed to provide identification and was traveling without a valid driver’s license. Further investigation found that he is a registered sex offender and is being held on Florida’s “Brittany Law”.
Woman placed on ICE hold following traffic stop
A woman was placed on an ICE hold after her run-in with the Port St. Lucie Police Department.
Over the weekend, Rosangela Cardosa was stopped at the intersection of SW Savona Boulevard and SW Gatlin Boulevard for a traffic infraction. Officers say the only form of identification she could provide was an almost-expired Brazilian license.
PSLPD says officers contacted other agencies, where they learned Cardosa was an undocumented woman overstaying her visa. She was issued a citation and taken to the St. Lucie County Jail, where she is on an ICE hold.
Alcohol radiated from his breath
A Jensen Beach native, identified as Martin Duran, was found traveling 25 mph over the speed limit when he was pulled over.
Upon first contact, traffic officers smelled alcohol emanating from his breath. Duran refused to cooperate with a DUI investigation, was booked on counts of DUI, and taken to the St. Lucie County Jail, according to the news release.
Illegal tints, prior convictions
Adding to their list, PSLPD officers arrested Remari Bookall after he was stopped for having illegal tints near SW Gatlin Boulevard and SW Import Drive.
Law enforcement said his license had been suspended since 2024. In addition to his rap sheet, he had three prior convictions, two stemming from August. Bookall was arrested and taken to the St. Lucie County Jail.
Over twice the legal limit
PSLPD said the next arrest occurred on SW Gatlin Boulevard after Javier Hernandez was found driving without his headlights on.
When officers made contact with him, he had slurred speech and smelled of an alcoholic beverage, according to PSLPD.
Hernandez admitted to consuming alcohol and blew twice the legal alcohol limit, police say. He was arrested, transported to the St. Lucie County Jail, received a citation and his vehicle was towed.
Failed to stick to a single lane, failed to maintain speed
Last but not least, Jorge Cordero Mella was arrested for DUI after he was at the intersection of Port St. Lucie Boulevard and SW Aviation Avenue, according to police.
Police say that while Mello was driving, he failed to stick to a single lane, failed to maintain a speed, and gave multiple indications that he was under the influence.
Mello’s vehicle was towed, and he was taken to the St. Lucie County Jail.
