The Florida Board of Governors has confirmed Moez Limayem as the University of South Florida’s ninth president.

The board, composed mostly of members appointed by Governor Ron DeSantis, voted unanimously in favor of Limayem on Friday.

Limayem is currently the president of the University of North Florida.

At the board meeting, Limayem said he was honored and humbled.

“I moved to this country from Africa with a very, very modest background because I believed in the power of education to change lives. I stand before you today as living proof of that belief,” Limayem said.

The Tampa Bay Times reports Limayem’s contract includes a base salary of 1.25 million dollars, and thousands in incentives.

“I stand here today as the current president of one of the finest universities, UNF. And I have just been confirmed to lead another excellent university, USF. This is possible only in America,” Limayem said.

He was named sole finalist for the position by the USF Presidential Search Committee in September and was unanimously approved by the USF Board of Trustees in October.

He’s set to start in early 2026.
