Starting the week of October 20, trash pickup days will change for nearly a quarter of Cape Coral’s residents. Waste Pro is adjusting its routes to accommodate the city’s growth.

Residents will receive postcards in their mailboxes next week to inform them if their trash day is changing.

Debbi Young, a resident, expressed understanding of the situation.

“There’s so much construction and people moving in that things have got to change, and this is one of them, and it’s an important one,” said Young.

Young’s neighbor, Joyce, shared concerns about the new schedule’s impact on working families.

“People who work and families working, you know, it depends on what time they get up in the morning, because we have to have our garbage out early in the morning because they come like sometimes they’re around six, seven,” said Joyce.

Waste Pro plans to add five more trucks to improve efficiency. Young believes Waste Pro does a great job in her neighborhood.

“We’ve had to make adjustments before. I don’t think that’s a big deal. Just as long as they keep up,” said Young.

Another neighbor, Stephanie, supports the addition of more trucks.

“That’s the only inconsistency, as more trucks help, because it doesn’t all go into one truck. You got three different trucks coming out for horticulture, per waste, and for recycling,” said Stephanie.

However, Stephanie suggested that a postcard might not be enough notice.

“A banner on their trucks as they’re driving around, or even on the back? You know, when you’re driving down Colonial and you get stuck behind a Waste Pro truck, you know, something that’s got a little bit more of you’re somehow gonna see it,” said Stephanie.

If you receive the postcard next week, don’t ignore it. It could mean a new pickup day for your neighborhood.
