Former Florida head coach Urban Meyer was officially inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame on Tuesday.
Meyer is the 14th Gator and one of just 237 coaches to be enshrined in the Hall of Fame. The ceremony took place during the 67th NFF Annual Awards Dinner.
“I’m very humbled by the mentors that I had growing up and, overall, by the people who have come along our path, our journey,” Meyere said. “I grew up in the Woody Hayes and Bo Schembechler era. I worked for a guy named Earl Bruce and Sonny Lubick and Bob Davie. And so when I look at these young coaches coming up, I try to mentor them the same way that I was mentored.”
Meyer coached the Gators from 2005 to 2010, ending his tenure with a record of 65-15 (36-16 vs. SEC). He won a pair of national championships in 2006 and 2008, two SEC Championships and three Eastern Division titles with Florida. His players received 57 All-America nods and 113 All-SEC honors. Perhaps the most notable player to come out of the Meyer era is none other than legendary Florida quarterback Tim Tebow, who won the Heisman Trophy in 2007.
Meyer’s full remarks, as well as those of fellow inductee Nick Saban, can be found below or by using this link.
