TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – Earlier this week, a home in Killearn Lakes was destroyed in a fire.
The husband and wife are now forced to keep their family together despite losing everything just weeks before Christmas.
Jennifer and Michael Wright rented this home for two years before something caught fire while they were all away on Wednesday morning.
The home was a total loss, and although they lost everything, the family is grateful that firefighters were able to rescue their dog, Maximus.
“I asked the fireman, I said, can I hug your neck? Because he’s special,” Jennifer said.
Two of the family cats are still missing.
The Wrights are staying strong for their three teens.
“There are times when you try not to fall apart in front of them, but it’s hard not to,” Jennifer said.
“Cause they don’t need to be worried about adult stuff right now. You know, they need to continue with school and not focus on the tragedy. That’s our job,” Michael said.
The family of six is now living in an extended stay hotel as they plan their next steps.
The Wrights say their story is a sign you should treat everyone with grace as you never know what they’re going through.
A GoFundMe has been started to help the Wright family. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
On the same day, another fire broke out at an Apalachee Parkway home. One person was hospitalized and a cat was rescued. The Tallahassee Fire Department said the cause of the fire appears to be accidental.
A GoFundMe has also been started to help the victim, who lost everything to the fire.
