Mandarin, Ponte Vedra still a solid 1-2 in rankings

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The News4JAX Varsity 4 Super 6 boys soccer rankings will be published every Thursday during the regular season — except during Thanksgiving and Christmas week. Records are through Dec. 11 games.

1. (1) Mandarin (8-1-1), Class 6A

Quality wins: Bartram Trail, Beachside, Creekside, Fletcher, Nease.

Notable: A 6-1 romp over Stanton since our last Super 6. The Mustangs have a big matchup on Friday against Chiles followed by a home game against No. 2 Ponte Vedra on Monday. Emir Trto (12 goals, 14 assists) and Robert Calazans (13 goals, 6 assists) are leading Mandarin in scoring.

2. (2) Ponte Vedra (7-0-1), Class 5A

Quality wins: Bartram Trail, Nease, St. Augustine.

Notable: The Sharks went 2-0 since our last Super 6, beating Seabreeze (4-0) and Atlantic Coast (3-1). They’ve got a huge game at No. 1 Mandarin on Monday. Antonio Mahfuz Neto has a team-best eight goals. Noah Ostfeld is next with five goals.

3. (5) Beachside (6-2-1), Class 5A

Quality win: Englewood, Sandalwood.

Notable: The Barracudas went 1-0 since our last Super 6, a quality 1-0 win over Sandalwood. They’ve got unbeaten and fifth-ranked Tocoi Creek in a big one on Friday night.

4. (4) Creekside (8-2-1), Class 7A

Quality wins: Fleming Island, Fletcher, Mandarin.

Notable: The Knights got back in the win column after dropping two games, beating Englewood 2-0. They’ve got a tough unbeaten Arnold team up on Friday night. Luke Amman has a team-best seven goals and Sebastian Hernandez has five.

5. (5) Tocoi Creek (7-0-1, Class 6A)

Quality win: Flagler Palm Coast, Matanzas

Notable: The Toros added easy wins over Crescent City (3-0) and Oakleaf (4-0) since our last Super 6. Their first true test of the season comes Friday night against No. 3 Beachside. Dominic Nazario has six goals to lead the Toros.

6. (6) Bartram Trail (5-3-1, Class 6A)

Quality wins: Fleming Island, Nease.

Notable: The Bears justified moving into the Super 6 last week with a quality 1-0 win over what has been a surging Nease team. They face Arnold on Saturday and Tocoi Creek on Monday.
