The Texas A&M loss to SMU was a harsh lesson learned. Granted, it’s an entirely new roster adjusting to a new system; you would have hoped the veteran experience might have taken over at the end of regulation. But the page has been turned, and they are preparing for Jacksonville.
As disappointing as that game was, it was encouraging to see them battle back from a dreadful first half to be within 40 seconds of winning the game with the ball. It still bothers head coach Bucky McMillan to this day, but he recognized the positives even when the outcome was not what he anticipated.
“I don’t want to get so results-oriented because of that I don’t we don’t stay focused on that we were heading in the right direction. I mean, that’s what we’ve got to do, head in the right direction. “
It’s clear he appreciates the progress they are making, but he understands that when SEC play begins, he will need the 12th Man to show up in force, because they must protect the home court if they want a chance to make noise in the SEC.
“I know we got football going on, and I totally get it, but when basketball usually starts in January in the SEC, we know that we got to have everybody because we’re going to have to fight so hard in this league. And we can do it. If we can keep heading the right direction, we can take care of business at home, and that gives you a chance to do something”
