TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – The newest graduating classes of Rattlers, Noles and Blazers are receiving their diplomas this weekend.
Florida A&M University’s graduation ceremony started at 6 p.m. Friday in the Al Lawson Center.
Besides celebrating all the graduates, the ceremony marked Marva Johnson’s first commencement as the university’s president.
“We know that these experiences and the education you received will serve you well, and you will be joining an Alumni community that is making a difference worldwide,” Johnson said.
Florida State University is also celebrating commencement this weekend in Tallahassee, with ceremonies scheduled throughout the day on Friday.

Friday afternoon, State Representative Lawrence McClure spoke to the graduates.
Friday night’s ceremony features former Noles basketball coach Leonard Hamilton, as he returns to his old stomping grounds to speak to graduates.
The university said it is awarding nearly 3,000 degrees.
In Valdosta, 1,100 VSU students are taking part in the school’s 240th commencement this weekend.
Graduate students walked across the stage Friday evening, and undergraduates will be celebrated Saturday evening.
