Well-known South Florida radio host John Kross died on Saturday, his family confirmed.
Kross, known as “Footy,” was a staple in South Florida radio broadcasting, having been a host on Y-100 for 36 years.
His son confirmed Kross’ passing.
Aside from being a radio host, Kross served as the CEO of Here’s Help Inc., a South Florida addiction treatment center, for 50 years.
Here’s Help released the following statement on Facebook that reads in part: “John served as the CEO of Here’s Help for more than 50 years, dedicating his life to helping others and shaping the mission and growth of our organization in profound and lasting ways. Beyond his leadership at Here’s Help, John was one of South Florida’s most recognizable and beloved on-air personalities, known to generations of listeners from WHYI Y-100.7 and WIOD News Radio 610.”
Kross’ passing also caught the attention of U.S. Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz, who wrote the following on X:
“My heart is heavy today over the loss of the legendary John “Footy” Kross. Footy helped wake up South Florida for 30+ years on Y100 and his commitment to community was second to none. Through Here’s Help, he assisted thousands of people fighting addiction and changed so many lives.”

His cause of death was not disclosed.
