Miami-Dade County District 7 Commissioner Raquel Regalado is inviting parents on Key Biscayne to a free discussion on the topic of Environment, Development and Neuroplasticity.
The event, open to the community, takes place from 6:30-8:30 p.m, on Thursday, Oct. 16, in the St. Agnes Catholic Parish auditorium at 100 Harbor Drive. The event includes a question-and-answer session with world-renowned clinician Dr. Julia Harper.

This discussion teaches parents how to leverage the power of neuroplasticity to support maximum learning and developmental gains, along with explanations on how the environment impacts brain growth.
Dr. Harper, an expert in neuroplasticity, is the founder and clinical director of TheraPeeds Family Center in Davie, which serves people with processing disorders and their families for more than 26 years through her proprietary method.
Neuroplasticity is the brain’s remarkable ability to change, adapt and reorganize its structure and function throughout life in response to new experiences and learning. This ongoing process allows for the formation of new neural connections, the strengthening of existing ones, and even the creation of new neurons, which is essential for acquiring new skills, forming memories, adapting to challenges and recovering from injuries like strokes.
Seating is limited, so please arrive early. Doors open at 5:45 p.m.
The event is presented by It Takes a Village; TheraPeeds Family Center; the Key Biscayne Community Center; and St. Agnes Catholic Parish.
