TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – The Tallahassee Fire Department responded to two house fires within days of each other and is encouraging people to keep fire safety in mind during the holiday season.
According to TFD, on Dec. 13, firefighters responded to a mobile home fire on Capital Circle SW at around 3:00 a.m.
When the crews arrived, they found fire coming through the roof of the home. TFD said there was no one inside the home at the time of the fire.
On Monday morning at around 8:00 a.m., TFD crews responded to a house fire on Roswell Drive.
According to TFD, heavy smoke and flames were coming through the roof of the single-story home. No injuries were reported.
The State Fire Marshal’s office responded to investigate the scene, and the Red Cross was called to help residents, TFD said.
These two fires mark the sixth and seventh red bulbs in TFD’s Keep the Wreath Green initiative, which tracks residential structure fires during the holiday season.
TFD is encouraging everyone to keep fire safety in mind and offers tips to “keep the wreath green” and keep loved ones safe.
TFD said residents should:
Avoid overloading electrical outlets and do not use damaged cordsNever run extension cords under rugs or furnitureKeep live Christmas trees watered and remove them from the home once they begin to dry out Turn off and unplug holiday lights when leaving home or going to bedKeep candles at least three feet away from anything that can burn and never leave them unattended Stay in the kitchen when cooking and keep flammable items away from the stove Make sure smoke alarms are working on every level of your home
