A Cape Coral man was arrested after a dramatic series of events involving a home break-in and an altercation with a police K9.

According to the Lee County Sheriff’s Office, Xavier Jefferson was apprehended Friday morning after allegedly breaking into a home in the Whiskey Creek area around 9 a.m.

The victim reported finding Jefferson sitting on their couch. As Jefferson fled, the victim followed him and provided deputies with real-time updates on his location.

Deputies located Jefferson near Whiskey Creek Drive and College Parkway, where he refused to comply with commands.

K9 Vader was deployed to detain Jefferson. During the encounter, Jefferson allegedly placed the K9 in a headlock, choking him.

Deputies used a taser to subdue Jefferson and took him into custody. He faces charges of trespassing, resisting an officer without violence, and animal cruelty.

K9 Vader was evaluated and did not sustain any injuries.
