Largo police search for missing endangered man

LARGO, Fla. – Largo police are still searching for a man with dementia who disappeared on Friday morning.

What we know:

Police say Petro Kuqo, 87, was last seen leaving his home located at 1845 Oak Trail West around 9 a.m. on Friday.

He was last seen on camera walking through the parking lot of the apartment complex heading northbound toward US-19 in a gray pajama-type shirt, dark gray sweatpants and black shoes.

“We’re asking for the local community and here in the apartment complex in the surrounding areas and the communities a little farther away to remain vigilant. Keep your eyes open, check your video surveillance systems,” Largo Police Chief Mike Loux said.

Police held a press conference on Monday afternoon to outline their search efforts for Kuqo. They say he just moved to the area two weeks ago, so he is unfamiliar with the area.

Kuqo is 5’3″ and is about 165 pounds with brown eyes and gray hair.

Largo police say Kuqo is Albanian and does not speak English. He did not take his cellphone, money, or ID with him.

Multiple drones, helicopters, boats and jetskis have been deployed to search for Kuqo.

What they’re saying:

Kuqo’s family is worried and don’t know where he could be. His granddaughter, Elena Mita, said there haven’t been many clues or sightings.

“If he’s not in this rough area, he could be anywhere in Pinellas County, so even if you’re anywhere else other than here, please just continue to keep an eye out.”

The Largo police chief said the department is searching on the ground, by air and in nearby waterways. So far, they’ve turned up empty.

“We haven’t found anything bad at this point, so it looks good, and our hope is that hopefully he found shelter somewhere or somebody is giving him shelter and that at some point, maybe with all this coverage, and some of the social media, that he’ll pop up, and he’ll show up,” Loux said.

Kuqo’s family is also trying to stay positive and urging others in the community to keep their eyes open for their loved one.

What you can do:

Anyone with information on Kuqo’s whereabouts is asked to contact the Largo Police Department at 727-587-6730.
