TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – With less than 60 days to go, organizers of Night to Shine Tallahassee are gearing up for one of the area’s most anticipated events and they’re asking the community to step up and help make it happen.
Registration is now officially open for this year’s prom for guests, volunteer buddies, and donations, as organizers work to prepare for a night designed to celebrate adults and teens with special needs.
Night to Shine is an international prom experience hosted through the Tim Tebow Foundation, with events held across the globe each year. Organizers say Tallahassee’s prom is one of the largest prom celebrations worldwide, with thousands of people attending annually.
“Some of these folks, its their only time to get out and get dressed up for a special event. It’s a very important event to them and its our chance to make them feel loved and special,” said lead organizer Liz Crawford.
The Tallahassee event gives each guest the opportunity to walk the red carpet, enjoy dinner, dance the night away, and be treated like royalty for the evening. A key part of that experience is the one-on-one pairing between guests and volunteer buddies.
With the event quickly approaching, they say they can’t do it without the community’s help and are urging people across the Big Bend to step up and volunteer to ensure every guest has a buddy on prom night.
Volunteer buddies stay by their assigned guest’s side throughout the evening, offering support, companionship, and encouragement, a role organizers say often leaves a lasting impact on both the guest and the volunteer.
“You get more out of it as a volunteer than you would think, I think I get more out of it than maybe our guests do because it just makes you feel good and makes you appreciate how blessed you are,” Crawford said.
Night to Shine Tallahassee is set for February 13th at Immanuel Baptist Church. Training sessions will be held ahead of the event for those who sign up to volunteer.
Prior to the event, organizers are also asking for donations of gowns and suits for their annual prom boutique.
The boutique is being held on January 31st ahead of the event, it is free for any of the prom guests to attend and pick out a suit, gown or whatever they need to complete their prom day look!
Goodwill and Immanuel Baptist Church will be putting out bins in Tallahassee starting Friday, December 19th, and they will be decorated with special banners on them for people to drop off those donations.
Our Madison Glaser will be returning as this year’s red carpet emcee.
