PINELLAS COUNTY, Fla. – A heads up for drivers who take the Howard Frankland Bridge.

The northbound direction from St. Petersburg to Tampa will close at 11 Tuesday night.

That’s so crews can do work on installing overhead signs.

The northbound direction should reopen by 5 a.m. Wednesday.

The southbound direction will not be impacted. 

Details of Tonight’s Closure (Dec 16-17, 2025):

What: Northbound I-275 lanes on the Howard Frankland Bridge.
When: 11 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 16 to 5 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 17 (weather permitting).
Why: Crews are installing overhead sign structures for the new southbound bridge.
Detour: Take Gandy Blvd (Exit 28), then follow signs to Roosevelt Blvd, Gandy Blvd, and Dale Mabry Highway.
Impact: Southbound lanes are NOT affected; expect delays on detour routes.
