During the first day of the trial of Alex Lopez, the court in Lake County was able to select a jury. The jury was sworn in by the clerk on Monday, and opening statements were scheduled to begin Tuesday.On Monday, the prosecution dropped the charge of possession of a concealed weapon while engaged in a criminal offense in open court.Lopez, 26, is charged with first-degree murder, robbery with a firearm and other deadly weapons, and possession of a firearm and ammunition by a felon.Lopez is accused of entering a Leesburg convenience store on May 30, 2024, and shooting and killing store owner Raied “Ray” Shihadeh during an armed robbery.Shihadeh was a resident of Port St. Lucie.
