A St. Petersburg man crashed into a Florida Highway Patrol cruiser while a trooper was conducting a traffic stop, authorities said.

The crash happened about 6:40 a.m. Dec. 11 on Bay Pines Boulevard near Seahorse Drive, according to FHP.

A 64-year-old man driving a Jeep Cherokee east on Bay Pines Boulevard struck the marked patrol car, which had its emergency lights on, troopers said. The Jeep also hit a Ford van that the trooper had pulled over.

The Jeep driver suffered minor injuries and was taken to a hospital, FHP said.

The trooper, 24, and the van driver, a 75-year-old Pinellas Park man, were not injured, according to authorities.
