A tragic accident claimed the life of Diana Boone on Monday night in Fort Myers. The incident left the community in shock and mourning.

Peggy Rossen, a neighbor, described the scene with numerous police cars present.

“Just cop cars everywhere, cop cars down the street, cop cars this way,” said Rossen.

Rossen recounted witnessing the accident that led to Boone’s death.

“It was a quiet accident. She came in and drove down there and drove around the park and came back and was probably attempting a U-turn, and her wheels slipped over the seawall and she flipped her car over,” said Rossen.

On Tuesday afternoon, Boone’s family gathered at the seawall to remember her. Boone was a beloved employee at Winn-Dixie.

“She always was just being nice to everyone, cracking jokes, making everyone laugh, really. She really was like a light of joy in there as a cashier,” said Emily Rosario, Boone’s co-worker.

Rosario expressed the deep sense of loss felt by Boone’s colleagues.

“I’m gonna miss her a lot. We were just with her the other day at work, and it was really sad knowing that she’s gone now. I won’t be able to see her again,” said Rosario.

Boone’s impact extended beyond her workplace.

“It’s just it catches you out of the blue, and you don’t know how to react or what to think about it,” said Paul McMurrain, manager at Uptown Bingo.

Boone was a regular at Uptown Bingo, often visiting right after work.

“She’d come in, like, straight from Winn-Dixie, she’d be, you know, in her work uniform, and get done with work and come straight to bingo,” McMurrain said.

“She was great. She was friendly. Always had a smile on her face,” McMurrain added.

The community continues to grieve the loss of Diana Boone, a cherished member known for her warmth and kindness.
