Ryland Goede has one of the most unique perspectives of anyone ever associated with “Clean, Old-Fashioned Hate.”
That’s the moniker for the Georgia-Georgia Tech football rivalry.
Now, Goede is poised to add additional unique perspective to some of college football’s more colorful rivalries.
Most recently Georgia Tech’s quality control coach working with running backs, Goede is joining Jon Sumrall’s new Florida Gators staff as an offensive staff member. His final title is still being finalized.
But it’s another piece of the Yellow Jackets staff following offensive coordinator Buster Faulkner to the Gators.
Faulkner was hired earlier this month by Sumrall away from Georgia Tech, where Faulkner elevated the Tech offense and helped the program position itself for its first season of 10 or more wins since 2014.
The nine-win Yellow Jackets face BYU in the Pop-Tarts Bowl in Orlando, Florida, Dec. 27.
Goede was a two-sport athlete at the University of Georgia, playing for Kirby Smart’s Bulldogs and also the Georgia baseball team.
After his graduation from UGA, Goede transferred to Georgia Tech to play his final season of collegiate football.
He was added to the Tech staff almost immediately upon his graduation in 2024, working with the Yellow Jackets running backs in the time since he was hired.
Sumrall has moved swiftly to overhaul a Florida program that stagnated under fired former coach Billy Napier.
The Gators struggled on offense in 2025, despite the return of highly touted quarterback DJ Lagway. The Gators averaged less than 22 points per game, among the worst in the SEC and also among Power Conference programs.
Faulker was voted last week by his peers as FootballScoop’s 2025 Offensive Coordinator of the Year.Â
He’s added several supporting members of his Georgia Tech staff to his initial offensive regime in Gainesville, Florida.
Additionally, Tech is looking to replace offensive line coach after the departure of Geep Wade and running backs coach following the exit of Norval McKenzie to Virginia Tech, where McKenzie is set to reunite with James Franklin.
Approximately five members of Georgia Tech’s 2025 offensive staff are headed to the Florida Gators program, in addition to exits of Wade and McKenzie.
FootballScoop first reported Sunday night that A.J. Erdely is departing Georgia Tech for a role on Faulkner’s Florida offensive staff, likely to be the Gators’ assistant quarterbacks coach. Erdely and Faulkner have been connected since the two were at Southern Miss together last decade.
