Community Classroom – Heather Lane from Jenkins Elementary School

  • December 18, 2025

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – This month’s Community Classroom teacher wants to add some pizzazz to the classroom!

The name of her project on DonorsChoose is Pizzazz for a Class!

DonorsChoose is a website that allows educators to sign up and create a list to ask for donations. WCTV partners with DonorsChoose to help teachers in the Big Bend and South Georgia.

Ms. Heather Lane at Jenkins Elementary School in Lawrenceville, Georgia, said color and technology give a major spark to any learning environment.

Lane teaches fourth-grade English Language Arts.

She said she wants her students to have worksheets in color, so she’s requesting a color printer and toner for the printer. She’d also like donations for a tablet for one-on-one sessions and a beautiful rug for group discussions.

Lane said these few objects could truly make a difference.

“With education, you need to have some kind of spark to it because it’s already so concrete, just where the material the kids are learning, they feel like it’s just in a way monotonous. So, you want to add some kind of fun to it, some kind of color. Make it more lively,” she said.

Two years ago, Lane said she got into a car accident that caused her to have herniated discs in her neck and back. Therefore, she’s also asking for a nice, comfy chair for her ailing back.

However, the fourth-grade teacher said the aching doesn’t stop her from her passion for teaching. She wants them to have access to things that make the days brighter.
