A Miami man was arrested after authorities said he spent years collecting his dead mother’s Social Security checks and pocketing tens of thousands of dollars.

Baby Casseus, 62, was arrested Tuesday on charges of grand theft and organized fraud over $50,000, Miami-Dade jail records showed.

According to an arrest report, the Social Security Administration conducted an investigation that showed Casseus’ mother, Rose Bien Aime Casseus, had died on July 21, 2020.

Despite that, funds were being deposited into a Bank of America account in her and her son’s name until December 2024, totaling over $51,000, the report said.

The payments stopped when Social Security discovered the mother was deceased but by that time most of the funds were gone except for $11,473 that was returned by Bank of America, the report said.

Casseus was arrested and booked into jail. He appeared before a judge on Wednesday, who appointed him a public defender and set his bond at $7,500.
