The Florida Gators suffered a tough blow when talented young quarterback DJ Lagway made the decision to enter the upcoming NCAA transfer portal.

Lagway, who was the No. 1 quarterback in the 2024 recruiting class, has yet to reach his full potential at Florida. Following the coaching change from Billy Napier to Jon Sumrall, he made the decision that transferring would be in his best interests.

During the 2024 college football season, Lagway completed 63.2 percent of his passes for 2,264 yards, 16 touchdowns, and 14 interceptions. He also ran for 136 yards and another touchdown.

With that being said, Lagway has become one of the top players available in the portal. There will be a long line of teams with interest in having him join their program. However, the question becomes, which schools would offer him the best potential landing spot?

Let’s take a look at the top four potential transfer portal destinations for Lagway this offseason.

DJ Lagway, Florida GatorsFlorida State

Mike Norvell and the Seminoles could be searching for a new quarterback in the portal this offseason. Thomas Castellanos has been denied another year of eligibility and Lagway could immediately step in as the starter.

Making the move from Florida to Florida State would not put Lagway in the good graces of Gators fans. However, it could be a move that sets Lagway up for immediate success without having to move across the country.

LSU

Joining Lane Kiffin at LSU would have to be of interest to Lagway. With Garrett Nussmeier on his way out of town, the starting role has opened up for the Tigers. Kiffin has been known to be a head coach that can put his players in great positions.

Lagway needs to make the right choice in the portal. His future is at stake. Joining LSU could open up the door for him to reach his full potential and become the NFL talent that many expected him to be coming out of high school.

Clemson

After an incredibly disappointing 2025 season, Clemson might be a team to watch. Dabo Swinney is losing Cade Klubnik this offseason. He could turn to Christoper Vizzina or Chris Denson, but neither option is proven.

Bringing in Lagway would provide Swinney a much more dynamic quarterback option. While he isn’t known for using the transfer portal aggressively, the opportunity to add Lagway might be too enticing for him to pass on.

Miami Hurricanes

There is another school in the state of Florida that Lagway could consider. Carson Beck had a lot of success with the Hurricanes and led them to the College Football Playoff. His college career will also come to an end after this season.

Mario Cristobal would likely love to add Lagway to the program. He would have his next starting quarterback and Lagway again would not need to leave the state. Miami is a team to keep a very close eye on.
