The Florida Gators suffered a significant loss to the transfer portal as quarterback D.J. Lagway opted to leave the program, leaving a hole at the quarterback position.

Florida just hired Jon Sumrall as their new head coach after spending months looking for a replacement for Billy Napier. Sumrall is looking to bring additional toughness and an explosive offense to Gainesville.

He already made a splash hire, bringing in Georgia Tech’s offensive coordinator, Buster Faulkner, to lead the offense.

Faulkner managed success at Georgia Tech with quarterback Haynes King, and he will seemingly want to bring in someone with a similar play style.

King was a run-first signal caller who mastered the option, could make throws on the run, and thrived in play-action.

In the transfer portal, a player of a similar archetype is expected to enter the portal — Missouri quarterback Beau Pribula.

According to On3’s J.D. Pickell, Pribula would be the ideal quarterback for Faulkner’s offense.

“I think Beau Pribula and Buster Falkner’s offense in the Swamp with that place rocking, Jon Sumerall on the sideline eating his clipboard, I think he would be a phenomenal fit,” Pickell said.

“The obvious reason why I would like Bo Pribula and Buster Faulkner’s offense is the skillset. The way that he plays the game, the way that he is able to be a quarterback who can move a bit, he is true dual threat. He is a true call his number kind of guy.

“Again, the thing that I would love about this is the fit. The fit of his skill set with that offense. I think it’s exactly what the doctor would order.”

Who else could Florida target in the transfer portal?

Florida has already been linked to Aaron Philo, a Georgia Tech quarterback transfer. According to On3’s Corey Bender, the Gators want to add two transfer quarterbacks, and given the options on the market, they should have no problem achieving that goal.

Pribula would undoubtedly fit the bill and would bring SEC experience, though he will have options of his own.
