This month, Bill Baggs Cape Florida State Park provided the course and stunning views for the 15th running of the SunSmart 5K race.

Overall, Island Track & Field alumni and current runners took three first-place finishes and one second place.

Parker Zuccarini won the 16-19 years old age group with a time of 19:37. Elias and Aaron Fernandez Rivero took first and second in the 10-and-under age group with times of 23:27 and 29:14 respectively. Gloria (Gigi) Porro won the female 16-19 age group with a time of 29:18.

To top off a successful showing, Rocio Rivero, the mother of Aaron and Elias, also won her age group with a time of 29:05.

Sponsored by the Dr. Phillip Frost Department of Dermatology and Cutaneous Surgery at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine, the SunSmart 5K is fitness, fun and preventative healthcare wrapped into one energizing event. Every registered participant was eligible to receive a free skin cancer screening and sunscreen samples.
