TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – One of the legends of Florida A&M football appears to be coming home to the highest of seven hills.
On Friday, the FAMU Board of Trustees published a draft contract for Quinn Gray to become the university’s next head football coach. The board is scheduled to meet Tuesday morning to finalize the deal.
The proposed contract comes just days after Gray left the same position at Albany State University. He shared a post to X, formerly known as Twitter, saying goodbye to ASU and thanking the university for the opportunity.
That same day, ASU also thanked Gray for his leadership and commitment to the university’s student-athletes. “We wish you and your family the very best in your next chapter,” ASU wrote in a social media post Monday.
In the contract, trustees proposed a base salary of $240,000 for Gray’s first year as head coach and an increase of $20,000 on an annual basis.
Additionally, the BOT proposed a signing bonus of $25,000, “which shall be paid no later than the end of the University’s fiscal year on June 30, 2026,” the drafted contract wrote.
The drafted contract for Gray came a week after FAMU parted ways with its former head coach James Colzie, after two seasons on the job.
If the contract is approved, Gray, a FAMU Sports Hall of Famer, would return to the place where he made his name.
Gray was a star quarterback for the Rattlers from 1998-2001, breaking many school passing records, according to Florida A&M.
