The Miami Hurricanes lost their first game of the season tonight, 24-21. It was a frustrating game to watch from the start, with the defense giving up a quick 14 points and the offense not being able to generate any momentum the entire night. Just a bad performance by a team I thought was better than this.

Let’s get to the three stars of the game.

The freshman wide receiver came to play tonight. He was all over the place on offense, with 7 receptions for 121 yards, two rushes for 14 yards, and a touchdown, plus a two-point conversion throw to CJ Daniels. Toney also had a punt return that would have likely been a touchdown, but was nullified by a non-existent fair catch the refs blew the whistle on. Lame. Malachi Toney continues to be one of the most exciting offensive players in the country. It’s too bad his effort came in a loss. He deserved more.

The transfer defensive back was the only bright spot on Miami’s defense tonight. He finished with 6 solo tackles, 2 TFL, 1 sack, and 1 forced fumble. Scott’s first-half sack was picture perfect. Plus, he was one of the only one making open-field tackles when he had the chance. I love watching him play. If there were a few more Keionte Scotts on defense tonight, the Canes might have actually won the game. Straight up dude.

I saw on Twitter that many Canes fans couldn’t get to the game in time due to traffic. No surprise there with South Florida rush hour on a Friday. Once they got settled, they made plenty of noise. I loved hearing the crowd roar after one of the few big plays by Miami’s offense and on Louisville third downs. Sadly, the Cardinals were able to convert plenty of third downs despite the decibels. Ugh. Such a dumb, frustrating loss.

None. That’s a bad loss.
