Jacksonville police quickly identified a suspect in the weekend’s carnage that sent five young people to hospitals after a holiday party at an Airbnb on Arlingwood Avenue near Mill Creek Road.

On Dec. 23 a Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office SWAT team and the U.S. Marshals Task Force arrested 19-year-old Kenshawn Prentice after a brief standoff at his home on Sibbald Road. He is charged with five counts of attempted murder and one count of possession of a firearm by a juvenile delinquent.

The shooting occurred about 3 a.m. Dec. 20 at a gathering of about 20 people when an argument erupted into gunfire both in the backyard and inside the home, the Sheriff’s Office said. Five people were struck ― a 16-year-old boy, 20- and 21-year-old women and two men both 21. The boy was shot in the back. The Sheriff’s Office said none of the injuries was considered life-threatening.

The incident report lists all but one of them from Jacksonville. The other is from St. Augustine. The Times-Union is not naming them for their privacy and safety.

Airbnb frowns on parties at its rentals and five years ago instituted a global ban on such gatherings. The company said it will again activate anti-party technology in the days around New Year’s Eve.

In Jacksonville approximately 90 people were deterred from booking an entire home listing on Airbnb around this time last year, according to the home rental business.
