CAPE CORAL, Fla. —
A Cape Coral couple says they still get goosebumps thinking about the moments they stopped to help a crash victim during an afternoon of errands on Monday at around 3 p.m.
Christina Howard says they missed the crash near Southwest 10th Street by seconds. As they approached the scene along Skyline Boulevard, they learned a person was trapped and unconscious.
“My husband rolled the window down and asked if everyone was OK,” Howard said. “We pulled over and got out to help.”
Howard says a black Camaro was lodged against a tree in the median, trapping a 17-year-old driver inside the mangled vehicle. Just across the northbound lanes, a pickup truck had also slammed into the garage of a nearby home, leaving visible damage.
“The accident was horrible,” Howard said. “The driver had blood on him.”
While waiting for first responders, Howard says her husband placed his hand on the teen’s head and prayed. Within minutes, the unconscious teen opened his eyes just before emergency crews arrived.
Howard later heard from the teen’s father, who said his son suffered a broken wrist and needed stitches but is expected to recover.
