City commission lauds Elk, attorney for service

LARGO — At its Dec. 16 meeting, the Largo City Commission recognized Largo Elks Lodge 2159 and City Attorney Alan Zimmet for their longstanding commitment to public service and contributions to the community.

The Elks Lodge was cited for its continued support of the Largo Police Department Senior Assistance Program. During the Lodge’s annual blind auction on Nov. 8, members raised a record-breaking $10,210 for the Senior Services Emergency Care and Respite Fund, which provides direct assistance to Largo seniors in need.

Now in its eighth year, the annual auction has generated more than $35,000 to support seniors throughout the community.

Largo Police Senior Services Officer Joel Quattlebaum addressed the City Commission to express sincere appreciation for the Lodge’s generosity, sharing real-life examples of how these funds make a meaningful difference for local seniors.

The commission also honored City Attorney Alan Zimmet for 37 years of service to the city, including 25 years as city attorney. Throughout his tenure, Zimmet has provided trusted legal counsel during periods of significant growth and transformation for the city.

His leadership, commissioners said, supported major redevelopment initiatives, updates to the City Charter and Development Code, and advancement of the Horizon West Bay initiative. Zimmet is a Local Government Fellow of the International Municipal Lawyers Association.
