Trooper flown to hospital after high-speed chase on Central Florida highway ends in crash

A trooper in Central Florida was hospitalized after being injured during a Christmas Day high-speed chase on Interstate 95 that ended in a crash, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. The southbound lanes of the highway are still closed in Brevard County as of 11:15 a.m. Troopers said it all started in Volusia County when a vehicle was seen swerving and speeding on the interstate. The trooper tried to pull the vehicle over; however, it led to a chase into Titusville, FHP said. Eventually, the vehicle and the patrol car ran off the roadway and struck the guardrail, FHP said. The trooper was badly injured and had to be flown to a hospital. FHP said he is awake now and talking.
