PORT ST. LUCIE — Scarlett Sanders may be small but the young entrepreneur has big dreams.

Scarlett, 7, wanted to earn a little money by selling something. After deciding to open a hot cocoa and cookie stand, she asked her mom to order a kit online that she could customize.

She opened her stand on a Saturday just before Christmas and her mom, Rebecca Sanders, invited their neighbors through a community Facebook page. Several neighbors stopped by, including the Apostolico family.

“It’s really yummy cocoa,” said 7-year-old Serafina Apostolico.

“I really want to run a business and I thought I could sell hot chocolate,” said Scarlett. “In the summer time I could sell ice pops.”

Scarlett was then invited to do a pop-up of her cocoa stand at the community’s golf cart parade the following day, a move which only bolstered the young girl’s resolve.

“I want to build my own shed and run an animal shelter,” she said. “I’m going to pay my workers and also put some in my wallet. I’ll just work my way up to my dream of owning a business.”
