POLK COUNTY, Fla. (WEAR) — Deputies say a 47-year-old Florida man killed his wife and shot his stepdaughter before fatally shooting himself after an argument over this past week’s Monday Night Football game.

Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd said Jason Kenney killed himself hours after fatally shooting his wife, as well as shooting a 13-year-old girl in the face.

Sheriff Judd said the murder occurred after the wife suggested to Kenney that he turn off Monday’s game between the San Francisco 49ers and the Indianapolis Colts.

Kenney had reportedly been drinking as the argument escalated, prompting the wife to tell her 12-year-old son to call 911.

Sheriff Judd said the boy ran to a neighbor’s home, which is when he heard gunshots. Deputies then arrived to find the wife, Crystal Kenney, dead and the 13-year-old girl with gunshot wounds to the shoulder and face. She is now in the hospital.

The boy was unharmed, as well as Crystal’s 1-year-old daughter, who was found asleep in a crib.

Deputies say Jason Kenney fled the home after the shooting. He drove to his father’s home, where deputies located him. He then shot himself as deputies tried to get him out of a shed.

According to Sheriff Judd, Crystal had recently written her husband a note urging him to get help.

“You’re drinking, you’re using cocaine again. This is not the way the family should be. You need God,” Judd said the note states.
