“No thrones, no crowns, no kings.” This message is spreading nationwide with another round of ‘No Kings’ protests set to take place later today.

Earlier this year, these protests occurred across the country, including in Southwest Florida. Now, rallies and peaceful protests are expected in more than 2,000 areas in the U.S., with six happening in Southwest Florida. Locations include Fort Myers, Sanibel Island, Port Charlotte, Englewood, and Naples.

Protestors are voicing their anger and frustration with President Donald Trump and his administration. Concerns range from illegal immigrant detention practices to the government shutdown. The protests are intended to be peaceful, and law enforcement is ensuring safety and security.

“As with any event of this nature, LCSO remains vigilant and will increase patrols to ensure the safety and security of those participating in the protest as well as the general public,” said the Lee County Sheriff’s Office.

“We have plans in place to allow protesters’ right to peaceful protest while also protecting our community,” said the Collier County Sheriff’s Office.

“Officers will be in the area to facilitate a lawful and orderly demonstration, safeguard everyone’s rights, and minimize any disruption to the community,” said Deputy Chief Anthony Thompson of the Sanibel Police Department.

The Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office said, “We are aware of the protest and have been in communication with the organizer. We will be prepared.”
