Jacksonville Jaguars’ head coach Liam Coen made NFL history in Week 17 after the team’s latest victory over the Colts.
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Coen is the only first-year head coach to win 12 or more games after taking over a team that had four or fewer wins during the previous season.
The Jaguars are currently 12-4 on the year and have won seven games in a row. Along with already clinching a playoff berth, they are one win away from winning the AFC South title, and remain in the mix for the conference’s top seed in the postseason.
As the offensive play-caller, Trevor Lawrence and the Jaguars’ offense have been rolling over the last month-plus under Coen. This includes Jacksonville scoring 30 or more points in five of their last nine games.
Not to be overlooked either is the staff that Coen has assembled around him, which includes offensive coordinator Grant Udinski and defensive coordinator Anthony Campanile, who has turned the Jaguars into a disguise and takeaway-heavy defense.

However, going beyond the production and wins, perhaps what stands out the most about this Coen-led Jaguars team is their resiliency.
After blowing a 19-point fourth-quarter lead to Houston, the Jaguars were 5-4, and it felt like a fork in the road moment for this team. But since then, Jacksonville has won six games in a row, which tells us a lot about the makeup of this team under Coen’s leadership.
