TEMPLE TERRACE — It’s Burger Time in Temple Terrace.

In the next few weeks, residents will start to see progress on three different burger joints headed to Temple Terrace, led by the popular Culver’s chain.

The City Council is expected to debate and potentially approve site plans at the scheduled Jan. 6 meeting for Culver’s latest location at 5880 E. Fowler Ave., across the street from Florida Orthopedic.

The fast casual restaurant will replace the shutdown Wells Fargo bank and will be the first Culver’s in Temple Terrace. The nearest locations currently are on North Nebraska Avenue in North Tampa, Carrollwood and Brandon.

The planned 4,400-square-foot burger eatery will feature a drive-thru.

Culver’s was founded in 1984 in Wisconsin as Culver’s Frozen Custard and Butter Burgers and still is well known for both.

The restaurant is highly regarded for the quality of its food, which is considered a level above typical fast food, from its smash burgers served on buttered buns (or Butter Burgers), to its cheese curds, fried fish and variety of custard.

The council hearing will only require one reading, as the potential approval of Culver’s doesn’t require any type of zoning amendment, according to Greg Pauley, Temple Terrace’s director of Community Development.

Pauley also said another hamburger-oriented restaurant, Cook Out, has its construction fence up and has begun work on its new location on the corner of 56th Street and East Fowler Avenue.

The North Carolina-based restaurant is replacing the former Boston Market, which has been closed and vacant since 2023.

Cook Out is known for its chargrilled hamburgers, chicken sandwiches and shake selection.

And if that is not enough burgers for you, Haddaburger has plans on bringing halal smash burgers to Temple Terrace at 8932 Bertha Palmer Blvd., at the former location of Abbott’s Custard in the Fountain Shoppes of Temple Terrace, which is under new ownership.

Permit applications are currently being reviewed by the city, and owner Hassan Diab told businessdebut.com that he hopes it will be open in January or early February.

Haddaburger will seat roughly 24 guests and operate with a pared down menu featuring burgers with minimal toppings like bacon, onions and jalapenos smashed right into the meat.

Shakes and cheese sticks will also be served, as well as fries.

All the food at Haddaburger will be halal certified.
